What We Do Duties and Responsibilities the Regional Planning Commission
Subdivision Regulations
The Office of the Knox County Regional Planning Commission is responsible for the administration of the Knox County Subdivision Regulations. The purpose of the Subdivision Regulations is to provide for the harmonious development of the County by:
- Promoting the public health, safety, and general welfare of Knox County
- Lessening the congestion in the streets and highways
- Furthering the orderly layout and use of land
- Securing safety from fire, panic, and other dangers
- Providing adequate light and air
- Preventing the over-crowding of land
- Avoiding undue concentration of population
- Facilitating adequate provisions for transportation, water, sewage, schools, parks, playgrounds, and other public requirements
- Facilitating subdivision of larger tracts into smaller parcels of land
Flood Damage Prevention Resolution
The Office of the Knox County Regional Planning Commission is responsible for the administration of the Knox County Floodplain Regulations. It is the purpose of the Floodplain Regulations to promote the public health, safety and general welfare, and to:
- Protect human life and health
- Minimize expenditure of public money for costly flood control projects
- Minimize the need for rescue and relief efforts associated with
flooding and generally undertaken at the expense of the general public
- Minimize prolonged business interruptions
- Minimize damage to public facilities and utilities such as water and gas
mains,
electric, telephone and sewer lines, roads and bridges located in
areas
of special flood hazard
- Help maintain a stable tax base by providing for the proper use and
development
of areas of special flood hazard so as to protect property and minimize
future flood blight areas
- Ensure that those who occupy the areas of special flood hazard assume
responsibility
for their actions
- Minimize the impact of development on adjacent properties within and
near
flood prone areas
- Ensure that the flood storage and conveyance functions of the floodplain
are
maintained
- Minimize the impact of development on the natural, beneficial values of
the
floodplain
- Prevent floodplain uses that are either hazardous or environmentally
incompatible
- Meet community participation requirements of the National Flood
Insurance
Program
Review Amendments to Township Zoning Resolutions
As provided in the Ohio Revised Code, all
amendments to
township zoning resolutions, both text and map changes, must first be
reviewed
by the Regional Planning Commission for compliance with the Knox County
Comprehensive Plan.
Knox County Airport Zoning Regulations
The
Office of the Knox County Regional Planning
Commission is responsible for the administration of the Knox County
Airport
Zoning Regulations. Airport
Zoning
Regulations are enforced for the purpose of promoting public health,
safety,
comfort and general welfare of the inhabitants of Knox County Ohio,
by preventing destruction or impairment of the utility of the Airport
and the
public investment therein.
