Knox County Yard Waste & Compost Area
Knox County Yard Waste & Compost Area is located between Mount Vernon
and Bangs on Thayer Road, just off Routes 3/36, past the old Landfill entrance.
The Knox County Yard Waste & Compost hours of operation are:
April through October - Open every Wednesday & Saturday 8:00 A.M. - 4 P.M.
November through March - Open Saturdays only 8:00 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Acceptable Material
All material should be removed from bags
and placed loosely into designated areas.
- Grass Clippings
- Leaves
- Shrubs and brush
- Christmas Trees - without any lights or decorations
- Tree limbs up to 10" in diameter

Non-Acceptable Material
- Christmas Trees - with lights or decorations
- Tree limbs up to 10" in diameter
- Tree trunks
- Treated/painter wood
- Food waste

Help Yourself
Mulch and composted leaves are available to take home for your own personal use. All materials must be loaded/unloaded by hand.
