Old Prescriptions
SAFELY DISPOSE OF UNWANTED
OR EXPIRED PRESCRIPTIONS

Old prescriptions, which are no longer wanted or have expired, can be placed anonymously into drop boxes permanently located within the lobby areas of the Knox County Sheriff's Office, 11540 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon
and the Mount Vernon Police Department, 5 North Gay Street, Mount Vernon.

Drop boxes are available for usage 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

NO LIQUIDS, INJECTABLES OR INHALERS

Drop offs are for pill medications only. To safely dispose of liquid medications, add enough flour into liquid to form a harden substance; then place inside a plastic bag and dispose as waste.

REMOVE FROM ORIGINAL CONTAINERS

Empty prescription medications from bottles or other packaging, such as blister packs, into a plastic bag for easy disposal. If you leave medications in original bottles, remove any identifying labels.

UNWANTED OR UNUSED MEDICATIONS ONLY

Expired medications, prescription and non-prescription pills, creams, pain medications, mood altering drugs, pain relievers, cold and flu remedies, vitamins and pet medications.
