On Friday June 13, Judge Otho Eyster in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas sentenced five men for various felony crimes and violations of community control supervision, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.
William T. Dilger, 23, Centerburg, and Nicholas A. Hudson, 28, Mount Vernon, were convicted of aggravated assault for breaking the arm of a 35 year old Mount Vernon man, on November 2, 2007. Dilger was sentenced to 17 months in prison. Judge Eyster imposed an additional prison sentence of 494 days because Dilger’s new conviction is a violation of the terms of his Post Release Control Supervision. Dilger has been to prison before, Thatcher said. Hudson was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Patrolman Jessica Butler, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.
Aaron J. Kosier, 20, was convicted of possessing a stolen laptop computer. Thatcher said on November 11, 2007, Deputy Dan Bobo, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an inventory search of Kosier’s vehicle after stopping him near Apple Valley Drive for driving under suspension. Deputy Bobo discovered the stolen laptop hidden under the driver’s seat. The laptop belongs to a local college student. Kosier was sentenced to an 11 month prison term.
Jeremy A. Helmick, 27, Fredericktown, was convicted of obstructing official business and possession of crack cocaine. Thatcher said on February 28, 2008 at about 7:30 p.m., Deputies David Shaffer and Courtenay Biggs, KCSO, attempted to serve Helmick with felony arrest warrants out of Richland County at his residence on Upper Fredericktown Road. When Helmick saw the deputies through a window, he retreated to another part of the house with one of his children. Helmick refused to come out of the house for approximately one hour, but he surrendered without incident as soon as the KCSO Tactical Response Unit arrived. During a search of the house, Helmick pointed out where he had hidden two small white rocks found to contain crack cocaine. Helmick’s 11 month prison sentence will remain suspended while he serves a three year term of community control supervision. Thatcher said the terms of Helmick’s supervision include a 60 day jail sentence and a six month term at the Licking/Muskingum Community Correctional Center, and Helmick’s driver’s license is suspended for six months. Detective Sergeant Gary Rohler and Detective David Light also investigated the case.
On March 27, Keith W. Carder, 19, Mount Vernon, was convicted of burglary and breaking and entering, and a 15 month prison sentence was suspended on the condition that he complied with the conditions of a three year term of community control supervision. Today, Judge Eyster imposed the prison sentence after Carder admitted to violating the terms of his supervision by consuming alcohol and marihuana and violating his curfew.
