On Friday March 9, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences in five felony cases, according to Prosecutor John Thatcher.

Reuben M. Troyer, 20, Wooster, was convicted on six counts of burglary. Troyer was sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $1,182.00. Thatcher said between July 17 and August 14, 2011, Troyer broke into six Danville area residences. Former Detective Sergeant Roger Brown, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the burglaries.

Jonathon A. Carpenter, 18, Mount Vernon, was convicted of burglary and theft for entering a residence and stealing motorcycle parts, on May 30, 2011. Carpenter was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision, including a 180 day jail sentence. Thatcher said Carpenter will serve a 17 month prison term, if he violates any condition of his supervision after he is released from jail. Patrolman Kyle Theibert, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

Michael J. Hudyk, 39, Fredericktown, was convicted of vehicular assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Hudyk was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision, including a 30 day jail sentence. Hudyk forfeited his motor vehicle, and his driver’s license was suspended for two years. He must also submit to mandatory drug and alcohol monitoring and counseling. Hudyk will serve a 17 month prison term, if he violates any condition of his supervision. Thatcher said Hudyk was involved in a two vehicle injury crash on North Sandusky Street, Mount Vernon, on May 24, 2011. Hudyk was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Patrolman Justin Trowbridge, MVPD, handled the crash investigation.

Robert A. Kirkland, 32, Frazeysburg, was convicted of intimidation and illegal cultivation of marihuana. Kirkland was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision, including mandatory drug and alcohol monitoring and counseling and a six month driver’s license suspension. Kirkland will serve a three year prison term, if he violates any condition of his supervision. Thatcher said the night of September 11, 2011, Kirkland fired a handgun outside of his residence at the same time a Division of Wildlife vehicle was parked in a nearby field. The Wildlife Officer in the vehicle was doing surveillance in an unrelated investigation, according to Thatcher. In the early morning hours of September 12, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant where officers found a spent .45 caliber shell casing outside and a small marihuana grow inside Kirkland’s residence. Kirkland forfeited the handgun used in the offense, according to Thatcher. Officer Michael Miller, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Detective David Light, KCSO, investigated the incident.

Levi M. Shoman, 22, was convicted of attempted child endangering for engaging in conduct that could have resulted in physical harm to a minor. Shoman was sentenced to a three year term of community control supervision, including mandatory drug and alcohol monitoring and counseling. Shoman will serve a 17 month prison sentence, if he violates any condition of his supervision. Deputy James Ferenbaugh, KCSO, investigated the case.
