According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, Timmy B. Browning, 28, is accused of burglarizing a Mount Vernon residence with two other male suspects, on October 15, 2006. Three years ago the identity of the suspects was unknown, but this year the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Browning’s DNA allegedly matched DNA evidence collected at the crime scene. Thatcher said Browning’s DNA profile is in a state database because he has been incarcerated in an Ohio prison. An arrest warrant issued for Browning, and anyone with knowledge of Browning’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact Detective David Light at the Sheriff’s Office.
Two Licking County men were indicted for separate crimes allegedly committed in Knox County. James M. Logan, Jr., 38, Newark, is charged with receiving stolen property for allegedly possessing a 1993 Buick LeSabre stolen from the parking lot of Ohio Fresh Eggs in Croton, on September 17. The motor vehicle was recovered in Knox County two days later. Detective Christopher Barbuto, Licking County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case. Thomas W. Schnars, 48, Mink Street, Mount Vernon, also faces a receiving stolen property charge for allegedly possessing an all terrain vehicle stolen from the area of Northridge High School, on September 15. According to the indictment between May 22 and September 4, 2008, Farah Hassan Mohamed, 23, Columbus, allegedly wrote nine checks totaling $24,290.50 to a business in Danville that were returned for nonsufficient funds. Thatcher said Cockrell allegedly falsified information about vehicles towed after normal business hours in order to get fees and commissions.
Captain Richard Brenneman, KCSO, investigated the Mohamed and Cockrell cases.
Chad A. Cardwell, 30, Mount Vernon, was indicted on one count of theft and three counts of forgery. On October 1, Cardwell allegedly stole three blank checks from an acquaintance. The same day and again on October 5 and 8, Cardwell allegedly forged the signatures on the checks and cashed them for a total of $920.00. Detective David McElroy, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.
The Grand Jury indicted three individuals for allegedly passing counterfeit checks. On September 6, Earl E. Harsh, 21, and Crystal M. McCoy, 19, used two checks totaling $962.53 to purchase over $600.00 worth of merchandise from a Mount Vernon store. The pair then left the store, but returned later to use the $300.00 in change they had been given earlier to purchase additional items. Detective Sergeant Jeff Jacobs, MVPD, determined through investigation that both checks were allegedly counterfeit. Harsh and McCoy live at the same address, in Mount Gilead, according to Thatcher. On August 11, Shyla M. Keyes, 33, Fredericktown, deposited a $3,635.65 check at a Mount Vernon bank, and then she withdrew $500.00. The next day Keyes withdrew the rest of the money from the account. Detective Corporal Matt Dailey, MVPD, determined through investigation that the check was allegedly counterfeit.
The Grand Jury indicted three individuals on charges of theft from the elderly. Angela D. Weant, 26, is accused of stealing two blank checks from an 88 year old female relative, on August 30, and of forging the alleged victim’s signature on the checks, on August 31. Wayne M. Winston, 25, is accused of possessing the allegedly stolen checks when he cashed them on September 1 and 3. Weant and Winston live at the same address, in Marengo, according to Thatcher. Deputy Tim Light, KCSO, investigated the cases. On September 8, Cheryl A. Clifford, 51, Mount Vernon, allegedly stole miscellaneous personal property from a 67 year old female victim. Angela M. Ervin, 36, Mount Vernon, allegedly obtained prescriptions for narcotics from multiple doctors on eight occasions between January 2008 and May 2009.
